Favored Fabulous & Fighting Her Story. In 1998 i had surgery to remove a benign lump from my right breast. Since then I perform regular self examinations and found a small lump in my left breast in June 2011. I went to to the Scarborough Hospital and they gave me an appointment for some time in July which I missed because I thought it was the friday but it was scheduled for the Thursday. I later got a another appointment for a date in September. At this time the lump grew bigger than an egg, I went back before my scheduled appointment around the 12th of September and was taken to surgery one week after. ....... After surgery, I was called in before my post-op visit so I knew something was wrong. I was told that I had stage 3 IDC breast cancer. l travelled to NY in November for a second opinion and was then diagnosed with locally advanced triple negative stage 3 cancer. I completed chemo/radiation and to date had 4 surgeries. I have never questioned the Lord to this day, for I know he has a plan for my life. I am currently in the process of starting a non profit organization with my sister who is a Clinical Psychologist. My goal is to help persons like myself cope with this life threatening disease. |

She thought she had a facial rash and went to see a dermatologist....... Her Story: She (the dermatologist) said Mrs Wickham u have lupus .. Lupus Sle .. it's really bad and u need treatment right away .. Do u know about lupus ? I have some information u can read ? Mrs Wickham are u hearing me ? I couldn't hear her .. I had no idea what lupus was I could only think .. OMG ! My skin is gonna fall off and I'm gonna die. Since then it's been like what feels like a lifetime of changes I had to walk with a portable oxygen tank in my car or handbag, constant weight loss and gain then loss again. Hair loss was the most depressing for me. I had to leave my job .. it's hard having a 6year old complain .. " mommy u always sick eh " I've been so depressed sometimes that I pray to not wake up ..But I pray a lot and I've let people in, now I have people to talk to. Also, I love helping people mostly kids .. So that has become my passion besides my kids to keep fighting and to live. |

In 2011 at age 45 I was attending Bible school, working 2 jobs as a geriatric care giver, going to the gym and trying to eat right. I've always watched what I ate for many years my weakness was cake cookies and ice cream (not chocolate flavors). On Friday 2nd December, I felt a lump about the size of medium lime. I had a negative mammogram the year before. I was diagnosed with Grade 2, stage 2 invasive cancer and had surgery on 21st of May 2012. The journey from the first surgery date to May 21st was filled with mixed emotions from wondering how this happened, to what have I done with my life so far, to why did it happen now. There was also the times when I remember the Word God sent me and I knew I wasn't going to die from cancer. P.s Incidentally my mom was diagnosed shortly after me but she died of it in 2014. |

2016 Favored Fabulous & Fighting Recipient. Her Story.... In January of 1986 I felt a lump in my right breast while taking a bath. I wondered what it was and thought it might be a cyst. I kept it in check and realize that it was growing so I paid my Doctor a visit and he advised me to do a surgery and remove the lump which I did. In three months time the results came showing it as Malignant.. I became afraid because the first thing came to my mind was death and I turned to my children and church family for comfort.. Yes I kept praying to God for help. After this, every 5 years a new lump would show up in the same area and my Doctor would remove it every time.. The last lump I removed was in 2002 when my Doctor died and I went to the Hospital to remove it.. A team of Doctors that came to see me were concerned but also amazed that for 15 years I never had radiation and i was okay, no pain nothing.. I was then sent to do radiation but no chemotherapy. Since then there's no more lumps.. It is now 31 years and I have no problem at all.. To God Be The Glory. |

Favored Fabulous & Fighting Her Story...... At the age of 31, I was a very active and I thought a very healthy athlete. That's why I couldn’t understand why I suddenly started experiencing crippling pains in my stomach for about a year long. After numerous doctor visits both in Trinidad and Tobago I was diagnosed with Stage III Colorectal Cancer and begun a very long and weary road to recovery all the while still being a devoted mother to my twin boy and girl. I was then admitted to the Scarborough General Hospital where I underwent two surgeries but then opted to travel to the United States where I had to undergo further surgeries and twelve rounds of aggressive chemotherapy. I am now Cancer free and am passionate about educating and motivating others that are affected by the illness. I am currently working on registering the Hope Matters Foundation, and held a 5 K themed “A Survivor’s Journey”. While my utmost priority is to rebuild from what was left from my life after cancer. |
